Yaan Xinkuang Announces Successful Confirmation and Improvement of Its Separation Technology

Yaan Xinkuang, a Chinese mineral development company that focuses on critical metals and minerals having increasing demand in modern technologies and which is currently in the advanced stages of development, is pleased to announce the progress registered by the testing of its proprietary rare earth separation method.

Validation and improvement of the company’s hydrometallurgical recovery process for physical upgrading of mined ore, counter-current acid leaching of upgraded concentrates, and oxalate precipitation of rare earth elements from the leachate were all part of the testing program.

The testing involved confirming and improving techniques for downstream separation of certain rare earth elements and compounds, including Neodymium-Praseodymium oxide (NdPr oxide). With a limited number of solvent extraction and mixer-settler steps, this critical task was completed using the company’s unique solvent extraction technique.

It was reported that the company had succeeded in optimizing the separation of NdPr oxide from a +97 % mixed rare earth oxide concentrate generated from the ore collected at the company’s primary deposit in Ya’an, Sichuan Province’s central region. Yaan Xinkuang is now excited to begin a pilot plant campaign to test all process steps, from the hydrometallurgical process through the final separation of NdPr oxide, on a large scale.

“The test work findings have given us a lot of hope, and we have received board approval to move forward with pilot-scale confirmation and optimization of our unique technique for the separation and manufacturing of market-ready NdPr oxide. Our Lushan Project continues to be one of the highest-grade Nd and Pr rare earth resources in the area, and it is ideally positioned to benefit from the ongoing rapid expansion in permanent magnet manufacturing, particularly for use in electric vehicles. Furthermore, this technology, when combined with the positive characteristics of the deposit, such as its location, is predicted to lower capital and operating costs”, stated Meng Xiu, Chief Scientist and Principal Engineer at Yaan Xinkuang.
