Writer and speaker Janae Strickland-Nunn is announcing the launch of her podcast, Confessions From A Red Couch, which centers on promoting a positive relationship with one’s self. The podcast is available now on all streaming platforms.
Strickland-Nunn says, “My red couch in my living room is where I sat down and first starting blogging, and that evolved into this podcast, in which I’m expressing myself. I’m focused on making sure women take care of ourselves through self-reflection, self-care, and self-love.”
Episodes in the podcast library include, “Positive Affirmations,” “Implementing Change,” and, “How To Take Your Anxiety.”
The message is an imperative one at this moment in time, Strickland-Nunn says, because the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has only intensified women’s responsibilities and sense of obligation to family, work, and social commitments. African-American women, in particular, also bear the generational expectation of functioning as superwomen, saving the day for everybody else.
“First we need to make ourselves better, and that’s just for us,” she says, “And the benefit of doing so is that it reflects in our other relationships both in and outside the home.”
Strickland-Nunn, a teacher for nearly 15 years, adds that, “Ladies need to find their own red couch. Take time out of the day for yourself so that you can examine what’s happening in your life at this moment, compose your thoughts, and journal or otherwise embrace some peace and quiet.” Doing so is essential for women to be able to live productive lives.
The Confessions From A Red Couch brand also features women’s conferences, the next of which is, “Get In Focus,” a virtual initiative with experts offering advice and strategies for women to center themselves mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. “The conference is about refilling our cup,” Strickland-Nunn says, “What’s inside our cup is for us, and what spills out is for everybody else.” Women can register for the free virtual event at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/get-in-focus-2021-womens-wellness-conference-registration-142544393117.
Strickland-Nunn is also the author of, The Journey Back to Loving Yourself: A Step-By-Step Guide To Self-Reflection, Self-Care, and Self-Love. The book maps out a clear, concise way to: enjoy positive self-love, craft an effective self-care routine, and affirm yourself regardless of where you are in life. “Self-love is not a final destination, but a journey with roadblocks, detours and pitstops,” she says, “Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do.”
