With Illegal Fireworks Surging, Las Vegas’ Tingey Injury Law Firm Urges Caution

Respected law firm with over 50 years experience in the Las Vegas area warns of devastation from fireworks accidents, urges compliance with safety measures.
Las Vegas, NV (PRUnderground) June 25th, 2020
With illegal fireworks skyrocketing in Clark County ahead of Independence Day, Tingey Injury Law Firm is warning Nevada residents to adhere to laws and safety practices or risk significant consequences.
For more than five decades, Tingey Injury Law Firm’s accident injury attorneys have been providing counsel and legal representation to greater-Las Vegas area residents who have been adversely affected by the negligence of others. They stand up to Big Insurance and help their clients get the medical care they need and recover any financial losses due to property damage, medical bills, lost work and loss of capacity.
Between June 1 and June 22, roughly 2,600 complaints of noise from illegal fireworks had been logged on Clark County’s “I Spy Fireworks” website portal—up from just 258 during the same timeframe last year. The noise is distressing on many levels, affecting people with small children on sleep schedules, pets that may get spooked and run away, and military veterans susceptible to flashbacks.
Fireworks are not allowed in Clark County until Sunday, June 28. They must be labeled “safe and sane” and may only be purchased at booths that have received approval from the fire department. “Safe and sane” fireworks contain less than 50 milligrams of flash powder and include sparklers, smokers, whistlers and ground fountains. They do not include fireworks that fly through the air or explode.
Firm accident attorney, Dean Tingey, said that he has seen firsthand the damage caused by unsafe fireworks.
“A moment of fun can quickly turn into painful burns that can lead to extensive hospitalizations and compromise people for life,” said Tingey.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that around the Fourth of July, an average of 180 people in the U.S. go to the emergency room every day for firework injuries. These injuries are most likely to affect the legs, hands, eyes, and face, and nearly half of them are burns.
With Vegas resorts trimming down their usual Fourth of July activities and people feeling cooped-up due to COVID-19 restrictions, purchased fireworks may offer greater allure this year, but Tingey is urging people not to take any chances with the following safety measures:
- Ensure that fireworks are lit on flat surfaces and away from anything that could catch fire, including dry vegetation, buildings or automobiles.
- Have adequate water nearby in the form of a working hose or several filled buckets.
- Watch children closely, ensuring that there is a high enough adult-to-child ratio to keep everyone safe.
- Keep pets inside.
- Handle used fireworks properly by letting them cool down and using a shovel to move them to a bucket of water.
- If a “dud” fails to ignite, don’t try to re-light it. Follow the procedure detailed above before disposing of it.
