Las Vegas, NV (PRUnderground) August 1st, 2023
Vegas Inc has named Intermountain Health as the “Philanthropic Business of the Year (Large)” in its 2023 Angel Awards edition, selecting the non-profit healthcare system for its charitable efforts to positively impact the lives of people throughout Southern Nevada.
“We are thrilled to be the recipient of such a meaningful community award,” said Keyona Cole, Region Chief Nursing Officer at Intermountain Health. “Our mission – helping people live the healthiest lives possible – guides everything we do at Intermountain Health. We have a long-standing commitment to philanthropic work and charitable giving. This allows us as an organization to partner with similarly aligned organizations and non-profits to help improve community health and well-being.”
The 2023 Vegas Inc Angel Award honorees were announced in the Giving Guide special section of the magazine released today. Angel Award categories also included Nonprofit of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year. Vegas Inc accepted nominations from the public, and a panel comprised of judges who have all been honored for their philanthropic work in past editions reviewed and selected the winners.
Vegas Inc established the Angel Awards in 2007 to acknowledge and encourage the accomplishments and contributions of outstanding community leaders and non-profit organizations.
Here are just a few ways Intermountain Health demonstrates its commitment to community health in Southern Nevada:
- Intermountain Health partners with The Defensive Line, an organization that strives to prevent suicide in children of color through awareness, education, and in-person support.
- Intermountain Health partners with SafeNest to assist in the creation of safe spaces for children in homes afflicted by domestic violence.
- To support the growth of specialty care availability for adult patients, Intermountain Health has sponsored the University of Nevada, Las Vegas expansion of high-need healthcare sectors including obstetrics and gynecology as well as behavioral
- Last fall, Intermountain Health’s support of the Tyler Robinson Foundation helped raise $3.5 million to provide emotional and financial support for pediatric cancer patients.
- With the opening of a new sponsored exhibit last October, Intermountain Health partners with the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum in Las Vegas to educate children about the experience of a doctor’s visit and to inspire the next generation of healthcare providers. The exhibit features a large replica game of Operation, baby dolls to take care of in the nursery, an X-ray machine and more. This exhibit creates numerous ways for children to develop and grow to understand the importance of receiving medical care while introducing them to various careers in the healthcare field.
- Intermountain Health empowers its caregivers to volunteer their time. In Las Vegas, hundreds of caregivers participate each year in frequent volunteer opportunities with various organizations throughout the Valley. For every hour Intermountain Health caregivers volunteer with an approved organization, Intermountain Health donates $16 to an eligible organization of the caregiver’s choosing. Intermountain Health’s goal is to log 144,000 volunteer hours by the end of the year.
