From October 25 to November 21, Ukraine hosted Business Camp for the fifth time. This year, it brought together 600 teenagers from 82 schools. Camp participants learned to find creative ideas and, with mentoring support, turn them into projects of successful startups.

Well-known Ukrainian entrepreneurs shared their knowledge and experience with schoolchildren, and Ruslan Tymofieiev, the founder of the Tymofieiev Foundation and venture fund Adventures Lab, shared with the children tips on pitching and attracting investments.

The speaker told the children about his own business cases, the cases of his fund and presented step-by-step instructions for preparing a presentation to investors. He also gave future entrepreneurs practical tips on how to pitch.

“The presentation is a teaser, like a trailer for a film that should within the first minutes capture the attention of investors, intrigue them. Trailers always use the most dynamic, brightest, and most intriguing shots to motivate a viewer to watch more. If your project is useful, innovative, and noteworthy, you are sure to find concise words to describe it. And you will fit in three minutes,” Ruslan Tymofieiev said.

After meeting businessmen, the camp participants together with their mentors developed startup projects and later presented them to an independent jury. Contest participants who presented the best ideas received valuable gifts.

“When I as well as most of my colleagues were building first business, we didn’t have any workshops, camps, coaches, or mentors, there was not enough specialized literature, step-by-step guides, or strategies. What can I say, even the Internet wasn’t as developed as it is today. As the result, there were lots of mistakes. If we had an opportunity to visit such a business camp at school age, we could avoid many mistakes common for novice entrepreneurs,” Ruslan Tymofieiev said.

The founder of the Tymofieiev Foundation believes that such events will help the new generation of businessmen in Ukraine to be more successful, systematic, and far-sighted than their predecessors.
