Every December on a cold Saturday morning, holiday wreaths are placed on the graves of individual veterans at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 1,100 locations throughout the U.S., with ceremonies at sea, and at each of the national cemeteries on foreign soil. Travel Benefits by Design (TBBD) has joined this effort this year, becoming a “Wreaths Across America” fundraising group. The purpose of Wreaths Across America is to “Remember, Honor and Teach” Americans about the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans.
“We’re honored to be a part of this special mission,” said Robert Riesmeyer, TBBD’s Founder. “We plan to support wreath laying at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. There are more than 1,700 veterans graves there that deserve our attention.”
Starting now, through November, TBBD will be fundraising to support the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. To purchase a wreath or to donate, visit www.travelbenefitsbydesign.com/wreaths-across-america. If you wish to donate via www.wreathsacrossamerica.org, use the code “MO0051” to find TBBD’s page and help them place wreaths on every grave– all 1,700 of them.
Wreath donations begin at $15 for one wreath, but TBBD would like to encourage groups and businesses to donate multiple wreaths this year, for every two wreaths donated, three will be placed. Prices are indicated in the online form.
The ceremonies occur annually on the third Saturday in December. This year wreath laying ceremonies will occur on Dec. 17. Contact TBBD for the time and other specifics. The ceremony is free and open to the public and volunteers to help place the wreaths are always welcome.
Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1992 to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. The organization’s mission — Remember, Honor, Teach — is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at more than 1,000 veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.
