Trailguide Pictures, an independent Canadian landscape and adventure film company, has released a new film this week titled “A Place to Paddle: Wabakimi Provincial Park.” The film is the first instalment in a new series of travel and destination short films planned by the company under the “A Place to Paddle” title.
A Place to Paddle: Wabakimi Provincial Park is Trailguide Pictures first travel and destination short film. For people interested in paddling through Wabakimi Provincial Park, this short film chronicles a wilderness canoe trip in Ontario, Canada’s second largest Provincial Park.
“It’s been my goal to take Trailguide Pictures into the realm of destination/travel film since its inception,” says Eke, “I’ve always enjoyed landscape style cinematography above anything else, and so, its been a personal goal to get out there, explore further, and share the experience with my friends and colleagues.”

As one of Canada’s fastest growing independent adventure film companies Trailguide Pictures has received tremendous support from the paddlesport and outdoor recreation industry. From the very start of this new film project, Trailguide Pictures has gained the support of industry leaders like Agawa Canyon, Bending Branches, Eureka!, Mountain House and Ontario Parks.
Filming in a Remote Location
Wabakimi Provincial Park is Ontario, Canada’s second largest Provincial Park after Polar Bear Provincial Park. The park is an unmanaged wilderness area located in the Boreal Forest and the Canadian Shield. It is an area rich with indigenous culture and there is evidence that the Ojibway have traveled and lived in the area for 7000 years.
“Wabakimi Provincial Park has been a location that I’ve had my eye on for a long time. Described as Ontario’s second largest Provincial Park and an unmanaged wilderness environment, I had hoped to get out there and hopefully reconnect while experiencing the type of serenity that only a remote location can offer,” says Eke. “I knew there would be challenges to filming in a remote location and there were. We even had a tree come down on us during a severe thunder storm on the final night in the park. Luckily nobody was hurt. All up it was a great learning experience.”
A Place to Paddle: Wabakimi Provincial Park has been released by Trailguide Pictures in time for National Paddling Week (June 10th to 18th, 2017) and can be purchased through digital download at www.trailguidepictures.com/wabakimi
Adventure Film Company
Trailguide Pictures is an independent Canadian landscape and adventure film company owned by canoe builder and outdoorsman Jason Eke who has extensive experience building cedar-strip canoes and has travelled the world looking for places that would allow him to explore further.
Eke began the company in 2014, with his first film “Canoe: Icon of the North,” a short documentary film which promoted the value of the canoe to the Canadian culture. In Icon of the North, Eke interviewed some of Canada’s leading authorities in canoe culture.
