It’s hard enough to get one baby to sleep, but twins can increase the difficulty exponentially. Tiny Transitions has a solution with customized sleep coaching geared especially to the unique needs of twins.
Katherine Fehily of Texas heads Tiny Transitions’ sleep coaching program for twins and is affectionately known as “the fixer.” She is a mechanical engineer-turned-mom who had three children under age 3, the youngest of whom were twins.
“When I found out I was having twins, the panic set in, so I decided the best way to really know how to train my kids to sleep was to jump in and become a sleep consultant, which was the best choice I made.”
Fehily received intensive training through Tiny Transitions, putting her skill set to work in her own home to get her twins sleeping through the night by age 4½ months.
She now offers in-person sleep coaching in and around her home city of Dallas, Texas, as well as virtual coaching for parents worldwide.
“The hardest part of putting twins to bed is when they get off schedule, and you never get a break because one kid is always awake,” said Fehily. “There’s also the problem of having them in the same room. One will wake up the other and then both are overtired and cranky, and most families don’t have the space to give them separate rooms.”
Fehily leverages her mechanical engineering background as well as her experience with dozens of different sleep methods to overcome these challenges.
“Every child is unique, and their sleep plan needs to meet them where they are. I take my root cause analysis experience and apply it to each individual set of twins. I can then customize a plan to help them get the rest they need in the quickest way possible,” said Fehily.
Fehily is part of Tiny Transitions’ Slumber Squad, a network of sleep consultants from around the country. They offer in-person or online coaching to train infants and toddlers to sleep through the night and overcome sleep regression. Their training is rooted in research from psychologists, physician assistants, social workers, lactation counselors, and doulas.
Courtney Zentz, President and Founder of Tiny Transitions, said that sleeplessness is a significant setback for American families, with 71% of infants waking at least once in the night.
“Sleeplessness creates chaos and disorder in homes and affects cognitive and mental health,” said Zentz. “It’s our mission to get families on consistent, predictable sleep schedules so that they can function at their very best.”
Zentz has been named a Top 200 Sleep Professional by Tuck and is a four-time “Best of Philadelphia” Sleep Consultant. She is also consulted by media such as Parentology, Romper, Fatherly, Yahoo, Thrive Global, and more.
