Times Ticking is known worldwide for its expertise in repairing watches from the world’s finest brands, including Accutron, which has been making history since 1960 when it rolled out the Spaceview 214 — the world’s first fully electronic watch. Now, Times Ticking is welcoming the release of yet another trailblazing Accutron product: the Limited Edition Spaceview, which is the world’s first watch powered by highly precise electrostatic energy.
The Spaceview Limited Edition, which Accutron is releasing for its 60 th anniversary, is reminiscent of the original Spaceview 214 with a skeletonized dial and similar green accents. (Those accents were commemorated with green lights illuminating the Empire State Building on Accutron’s 60th birthday). The original Spaceview watch, with its signature electronic tuning fork, was so precise that it was incorporated into America’s space program for over a decade.
Where the new, limited-edition watch differs from its predecessor is that 1) it comes in 18-carat yellow gold and 2) it is powered by an electrostatic energy mechanism that was over a decade in the making.
The mechanism uses wrist movement to power the watch’s two turbines, which rotate between two electrodes. The resulting energy is stored in a capacitor and fuels two motors, one for the hour and minute hands, one for the second hand. The motors are synchronized by integrated circuits, which keep the watch accurate within 5 seconds.
Seth Thompson of Times Ticking, which has been repairing Accutron watches since 1983, said that the company has set a high bar in the electronic watch industry with the Spaceview Limited Edition.
“Accutron already has such a sterling reputation for its accuracy, but this distinguishes them even further,” said Thompson. “And with it being released in solid gold, it’s also an incredibly beautiful watch.”
Times Ticking services all Bulova watches (Accutron is a division of Bulova) as well as watches made by Citizen, Bulova’s parent company. They also upgrade and repair Breitling, Fossil, Tag Heuer, Rolex, Seiko and Timex watches as well as vintage watches and clocks that require complicated work and hard-to-find parts.
“We get watches shipped in from far and wide from people who had almost given up on getting a beloved timepiece to work,” said Thompson. “Most shops won’t accept these time-consuming repairs, but we have an extensive network and are able to source rare parts and put in the time to get these rare pieces working again.”
Times Ticking performs local repairs and sells top-name watches for men and women in both the Layton Hills and Newgate malls. They also accept mail-in repair requests from all over the world.
