The last couple of years has taught us how essential it is for a business to have an online presence. It has become hard to imagine running a business without an online presence. It has become a necessity rather than a luxury. To have an online presence doesn’t end with having a website or getting listed on Google. There are several other things that go into making a business popular on the internet. Meanwhile, small businesses are still finding it hard to carve a niche in the digital world. What are the ways to build an effective online presence? Let’s ask an expert.

We reached out to Chris Fawcett, founder of Third Marble Marketing, a 2022 ThreeBestRated® award-winning advertising agency in Richmond, Virginia, to get some insights on improving a company’s online presence.

He provided top five SEO tips for small businesses to enhance their visibility on Google. They are:

  • Rethink your website’s goal – What exactly do you want to get from your website? What type of customer? Do you speak to that audience?
  • Improve your Call-to-Action – There’s no point in driving traffic to a site that doesn’t work hard to convert visitors into sales.
  • Google MyBusiness – Register your business with Google Business Profiles and make sure you complete every field.
  • Content is still King – Learn what E.A.T. stands for – Expert, Authority, Trustworthy – it’s what Google uses to rank your site. If your pages have 100 words, then you’re not an expert. Write more. Have more Expertly written content than your competitors. If you Google your service and your competitor outranks you – count the words on their page, then count the words on your page. Nine times out of 10, they will have more words on their page.
  • Learn or hire someone to do the technical SEO – You won’t rank if Google can’t read your pages correctly. It’s that simple. Without a well-optimized website, you may give your competitors your customers.
