Premier Chicago tax resolution firm introduces free workshop to assist seniors, veterans and gig-economy workers in filing their own taxes
Chicago, IL (PRUnderground) January 28th, 2020
Many people find themselves in the great “in-between” as tax season approaches-they have some important questions about filing their taxes, but they don’t want to spend the money to hire an accountant to file for them. The Tax Defenders is helping to bridge this gap with a new workshop that allows Chicago residents to take care of their own taxes but with free help from a CPA to resolve their questions.
The Tax Defenders is a Chicago-based, veteran-owned tax relief agency. With 15 years of experience, they have guided over 15,000 customers seeking help in resolving tax debt and other complications with the IRS. Unlike other agencies that overpromise and underdeliver, The Tax Defenders meticulously reviews each client’s case, then applies its deep knowledge of IRS policy and practices to present clients with the most viable and financially beneficial options for resolution.
Joe Hanley, owner of The Tax Defenders, said that in keeping with his company’s mission to help people better navigate the IRS’ policies, he is excited to debut the new tax-filing assistance workshop.
“We find that a lot of people are willing to go through the hard work to file on their own, but they still have a lot of questions simply because the IRS is such a complex organization,” said Hanley. “We think this workshop will fill a big need in the greater Chicago community.”
The workshop is free of charge and open to veterans, people over age 65, and those working small gigs exclusively for tips. It will be held on February 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at 125 S. Wacker in Chicago (second floor, Grant Park Room).
Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops loaded with their chosen tax software as well as all pertinent tax documents. Trained tax professionals, including a CPA, will be on hand throughout the event to answer questions.
Hanley hopes that this event will help alleviate stress for Chicago residents who face tax season with dread and uncertainty.
“Knowledge and understanding can take the pain out of the tax filing process,” said Hanley. “We’re hoping to arm people with the knowledge they need to execute their taxes simply and efficiently.”
Hanley is one of several professionals and tax relief attorneys at The Tax Defenders who is dedicated to pointing people toward a brighter financial future. He served as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, earned his law degree at Notre Dame, and started several successful businesses, only to find himself overwhelmed and exasperated as he tried to settle an IRS tax debt in the mid-1990s.
He later opened The Tax Defenders, determined to give people the knowledge they would need to avoid his same frustrating journey with the IRS. Since then, Hanley’s firm has helped guide clients in Chicago and nationally, saving them a total of $19 million.
