Chicago, IL (PRUnderground) October 3rd, 2019
The IRS can be an intimidating foe for those who are in arrears on their taxes, but tax relief attorneys can intercede to help them find a solution. Since the IRS is a constantly changing entity, the best of these attorneys are continually educating themselves about the latest IRS developments. To this end, The Tax Defenders attorneys recently attended the Nationwide Tax Forum in Chicago.
The Tax Defenders is a Chicago-based team of attorneys who shield clients from around the country through the tax relief process. Many people feel overwhelmed and afraid of the IRS and lack the resources for resolving their tax problems. This is where The Tax Defenders team comes in. They provide honest, aggressive and insightful counsel to clients and negotiate with the IRS on their behalf.
To stay abreast of the latest IRS policies and updates, Tax Defenders attorneys Derek Bergmann and Michael Duhn, as well as Enrolled Agent Karla Ortiz, attended the 2019 IRS Nationwide Tax Forum in Chicago. The July forum shed light on new penalties, including the IRS’ initiative to proactively revoke the passports of those who violate tax laws.
The forum also addressed installment agreements that taxpayers can enter into if they are not able to make full payment. These cannot be processed directly through the IRS system and require taxpayers to be proactive in working out a solution within approved parameters, but they can be very helpful for those who are overwhelmed by financial burdens.
Other highlights from the forum included:
A change in the way the IRS notifies taxpayers of their debt. The taxpayer will be the only one to receive notice of the debt and attendant limitations placed on their passport by the IRS. Furthermore, in an effort to create notices that better mobilize people to resolve their tax debt, the IRS is sending out multiple versions of the same notice to pinpoint which verbiage has the best effect.
Insight into new identity theft scams. These scams are becoming more widespread and sophisticated. Hackers have been targeting the clients of tax professionals by using their databases to create fake My Social Security accounts. The forum explored options for avoiding and preventing these scams.
Joe Hanley, Owner of The Tax Defenders, said that his company’s attendance at events like the IRS forum supports his firm’s primary goal: to empower clients.
“When people come to us, they feel powerless, and most of them don’t understand what options are open to them,” said Hanley. “Because of our keen knowledge of ever-evolving IRS policies and practices and the most current issues affecting tax relief, we can give our clients the guidance that they need to get out of their current situation.”
People seek tax relief for many reasons. They may have unfiled tax returns, accumulated debt, or payroll tax issues that have resulted in tax liens or levies. They may be victims of fraud or may have withheld money from the IRS on ideological grounds. Regardless of the situation, The Tax Defenders attorneys offer free initial consultations and provide honest assessments.
“We don’t sugar coat, we don’t make false promises to get clients in the door,” said Hanley. “We help our clients know exactly where they stand and then help them find the best path forward.”
