“The situation is alarming” Afghan people remain hopeless: AHMADZAI

In recent weeks, the Taliban have banned women from salons, education, and from work. Ahmadzai says, “The situation is alarming as all Afghan poor still remain hopeless”.

During his 2022 visit to the war-torn country, in Afghanistan, Ahmadzai saw first-hand the closure of universities and colleges for women and girls. He says, “I was shocked at the time, but clearly the bans have continued to cover other areas as we see”.

Afghanistan is one of the world’s poorest nations as two-thirds of the population were living in poverty in 2021. Ahmadzai states that these stats are outdated and it has worsened at this current time. He says, “All educated Afghan people which includes women, doctors, teachers, etc., are consequently impacted by the Taliban’s ban in Afghanistan”.

Without education, health, and economic means, there’s a sense of backlash by the Hazara minority community. Ahmadzai says, “Everyone deserves to live in peace and without education and human rights, there’s clearly no peace”.

In other parts of the world, in Sweden, the book burning has created intense division and protests demonstrations from Muslim countries.

Meanwhile, ISAF and NATO forces came to an agreement with the Taliban to run the government in conjunction with the Afghan democratic political leaders, but it all fell apart when former President Ashraf Ghani decided to depart from the palace. Ahmadzai says, “Afghans were left to fend for themselves and it was nightmare which still haunts many people some even got killed”, he refers to the days leading to US forces departure from Kabul airport.

In Afghanistan, at the moment, there is a lack of political response from foreign countries to the alarming situation and that the worse has yet to come.
