Fundraiser Celebrates Cancer Survivors While Raising Money for Patients in Treatment
Detroit, MI (PRUnderground) September 25th, 2018
Michigan-based non-profit, The Pink Fund, that provides financial assistance to breast cancer patients in treatment so they can focus on healing, raising their families, and returning to the workplace is holding their sixth annual Dancing with The Survivors event on October 5th at the Silver Garden Events Center in Southfield, MI. The event is a celebration of breast cancer survivors dancing to make a difference in the lives of breast cancer patients in treatment.
Dancing with The Survivors pairs breast cancer survivors or co-survivors with professionally trained dancers from The Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. For three months, they meet weekly to learn and perfect a ballroom style dance to be performed in front of an audience full of family, friends and community at Silver Garden Events Center. Ballroom dancing is an ideal pairing with cancer survivorship, given its proven mental and physical benefits.
The fundraising event will have dancing, music, cocktails, and delicious food to celebrate a community of breast cancer survivors who thrive in their recovery and make a difference in the lives of other cancer patients through The Pink Fund. The money raised will be used to make up to 90 days and $3,000 of non-medical bill payments for breast cancer survivors in active treatment at risk for devastating financial losses that may occur. All payments are made directly to patient’s creditor.
This year’s featured dancers are:
- Barbara Biess, dancing for her mother, a lifelong fan of ballroom dancing who succumbed to the disease in 1996.
- Sara Erzen, who was 21 weeks pregnant when she was diagnosed, and gave birth during her ordeal. Today her daughter Adeline is a healthy 5-year-old who will join her at the event.
- Cynthia Lutz, dancing for her two sisters who lost their courageous battles with cancer.
- Stephanie McKire, who is a cancer survivor, past Pink Fund recipient and engineer who helps other young women in the field through her Girls Than Can organization.
- Leaann Pugh, who caught her cancer very early and since has become vocal about early screening practices.
