This coming Monday the 17th of October sees the Olympic Parade come to Manchester City Centre. Following on from the UK’s fantastic 27 gold medal wins over an amazing Summer of sensational sporting achievement. Team GB will be heading along Deansgate on Monday at 4.30pm.

Starting outside the Museum of Science and Industry, the parade will move down Deansgate (from the junction at Liverpool Road). It will then travel through Huntsbank, Todd Street, Corporation Street, Exchange Square and Cross Street, culminating at Albert Square around 5.30pm.

If you’re heading into the City Centre to watch the parade the Corn Exchange (situated on the route in Exchange Square) has a fantastic variety of family restaurants in Manchester City Centre. Whether it’s a quick beverage you’re looking for whilst following the route to Albert Square, or an early tea after the celebrations. The Corn Exchange has something for everyone, from Gino D’Acampo’s My Restaurant (recently voted Restaurant of the Year) to Tampopo’s delicious Thai offerings (and everything in between).

Of the 27 gold medals won by team GB during this Summer’s Olympic Games 23 were won by athletes who either trained, or were born here. That’s a fantastic achievement for sport in the area, particularly for couple Jason Kenny and Laura Trott who both train at the National Cycling Centre in nearby Clayton.

The timing of the parade (4.30 – 5.30pm) has been set to try and include as many School Children as possible, the aim being to encourage as many kids as possible to be inspired by their sporting hero’s! Some of whom may even be old enough to compete in the next Olympics in four year’s time!

Further details are to be revealed over the coming days. For further information about the Corn Exchange, restaurants in Manchester and offers visit the ‘What’s Happening’ page on their website or contact them directly on 0161 834 8961. You will also find plenty of information regarding the upcoming half term!
