The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce is now a Certified Autism Center (CAC). This designation is granted by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) and  means Chamber board members have completed training and certification to enhance their ability to assist the community as a whole and better understand those with autism or other sensory needs.

The certification is part of a movement within Florence to become an Autism Certified City (ACC). The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce is the catalyst behind this movement, working with IBCCES to involve key organizations in the community, such as healthcare, education, law enforcement, hospitality, recreation, and others, to complete autism training and certification to earn the community designation to better serve and welcome residents and visitors.

“The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce is proud to earn the Certified Autism Center designation. Autism awareness plays a vital role in today’s business world, and the increased understanding and compassion leads to peace of mind for families when frequenting businesses in Florence,” said Roger Biede, Florence Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.  “This certification is part of a larger initiative to address how Florence can better serve the community and increase inclusivity.”

For more than 20 years, IBCCES has been the industry leader in cognitive disorder training and certification for education, healthcare, and corporate professionals around the globe. IBCCES provides evidence-based training and certification programs created in conjunction with clinical experts and individuals with autism to provide professionals serving individuals with cognitive disorders a better understanding of what these disorders are, industry best practices, and the latest research in these areas.

“IBCCES is excited to partner with the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce to build a more inclusive community – Roger and his team are truly committed and are amongst the top leaders in the industry as far as ensuring visitors and residents can feel welcomed in Florence,” said Myron Pincomb, IBCCES Board Chairman.

IBCCES also created CertifiedAutismCenter.com, as a free online resource for parents that lists certified locations and professionals. Each organization listed on the site has met the Certified Autism Center (CAC) requirements.
