Walls up and barricaded, I said, “Well, yeah. They’re all the same. Girl meets boy. Boy fights for girl. They usually get together, or one of them dies. The end.”
“Wow.” He seemed amazed. “Pretty cut and dried, eh? Where’s the mystery, the romance, the obstacles they have to overcome?”
“Oh, they’re in there, but those aren’t important. They all end up the same, anyway, so why bother?”
“You’re telling me the details don’t matter?” He seemed perturbed by my responses.
“I guess I am.” I casually sipped my Dr. Pepper.
“I think the details are the best part. That’s what you end up remembering. Everyone’s details are different, you know? That’s what makes them special, even if it doesn’t necessarily work out. Hey, it only has to work out once, right?”
I looked at him in shock. I couldn’t believe his opinion on the topic. He wasn’t like any other guy I ever met. “I guess so,” I said, feeling a change of heart, as I mulled over what he said.
“Who knows when it’ll happen?” he asked, looking deep into my big, brown puppy-dog eyes. “It could be today, tomorrow, or ten years from now, but the waiting’s half the fun, because you get to create your journey to that perfect one.”
