After returning from Desert Storm as a decorated U.S. Marine Corps infantry officer, Joe Hanley hit wall after wall trying to resolve a tax debt with the IRS. In order to help people avoid these same frustrations, he founded a tax resolution firm known as The Tax Defenders. The Chicago firm is now reaching out to veterans through the Impact a Hero program to offer free help with taxes.
Hanley, who earned his law degree at Notre Dame, recruited skilled tax relief lawyers and other professionals to join his firm. They apply their extensive knowledge of IRS policies and practices to counsel clients seeking the most financially beneficial options for tax resolution. Since the firm opened, attorneys have assisted more than 15,000 people, saving them a total of $19 million.
The Tax Defenders team will provide free tax counseling and preparation services to all veterans serviced through Impact a Hero, an organization devoted to furthering the personal and professional growth of veterans and their families.
The Tax Defenders firm is offering in-person help at their Chicago office. Those who do not live locally can seek assistance over the phone or internet. Hanley said he is grateful for the chance to give back to those who serve.
“It’s an honor to provide tax assistance to those who have sacrificed so much to serve our country,” said Hanley. “We are here to help veterans navigate current tax problems or simply prepare their returns.”
Hanley and his team of income tax lawyers chose to join forces with Impact a Hero out of respect for their mission to provide resources and emotional support to injured veterans, families and caregivers.
Mike Nasche, Executive Director of Impact a Hero, said that he is excited about the positive momentum that The Tax Defenders is already providing in veterans’ lives.
“Joe and his team have already taken on several cases, and we are very pleased with the help and service that they have provided,” said Nasche. “We look forward to a long partnership with The Tax Defenders as they provide an extremely valuable service to our veterans moving forward.”
