Tata Khachatryan, a talented young actress and a rising star of the Russian theater, will play Shagane in a new mono-performance that will make its debut on the stage of Hakob Paronyan State Musical Comedy Theater in Yerevan, Armenia on October 14, 2019. The performance titled “Shagane. The Secret of the Poet” will tell the story of Shagane Talian, a mysterious eastern woman whose name appeared in “Shagane, oh my Shagane,” one of the most popular poems written by the famous Russian lyric poet Sergei Yesenin.
Sergei Yesenin (1895 – 1925), the self-styled “last poet of wooden Russia,” is known worldwide as one of the best poetic voices of Revolutionary Russia. Born to a peasant family, Yesenin had little formal education, but he traveled a lot. It is no wonder that most of his poetry was inspired by the experiences he gained and the people he met during his travels. In 1924-1925, Sergei Yesenin visited Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, where the poet wrote his famous cycle “Persian motifs.” At the time, he met Shagane Talian, who became his muse and inspiration. “Shagane. The Secret of the Poet” tells the story of this woman whose feelings and experiences will be brought to life on the stage by the talented Russian actress Tata Khachatryan.
Tata Khachatryan was born in Saint Petersburg in 1994. Her acting career began in 2006 with the performances staged by the Children’s Theater Studio. Several years later, Tata was already playing on the stage of such renowned theaters as the Mariinsky Theatre and the St. Petersburg State Theater of Musical Comedy. The young actress is also known for her work in the TV series “Khutoryanin” directed by Viktor Merezhko, “Dr. Richter,” “Major-3,” and other shows, many of which had great success in Russia.
“Shagane. The Secret of the Poet” is the first mono-performance in the career of Tata Khachatryan. Moreover, it is her debut as a producer. Tata worked hard to bring the story of Shagane and the events of the mid-1920s to life. Shagane’s fatal meeting with Sergei Yesenin, her desire for freedom and fight for the right to be herself, her hopes and feelings – all will appear before the audience in this new mono-performance that is doomed to success.
“Shagane. The Secret of the Poet” is directed by Karo Balyan, a talented Armenian actor and director. It will be staged at Hakob Paronyan State Musical Comedy Theater on October 14-16 and then will likely go on an international tour to the delight of all fans of the prominent 20th-century Russian poet Sergei Yesenin and the multifaceted young actress Tata Khachatryan.
