Skin Grip is known for its super-strong adhesives that help active lifestyle type-1 diabetics keep their continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) firmly anchored to their skin. The company has teamed up with popular diabetes health coach Lauren Bongiorno to release a limited edition patch to support the non-profit T1 International.
Isaac Parkinson started Skin Grip after seeing the struggle that his brother, a type-1 diabetic, had in keeping his blood sugar monitoring devices in place. His solution was to develop ultra-strong patches and tape for Dexcom, Freestyle Libre, Omnipod, and other CGMs. The Skin Grip adhesives can hold devices in place for up to two weeks whether the diabetic is running, working out, pumping iron, dancing, and even swimming.
“Without a good adhesive, if you sweat or have a restless night’s sleep or even just give someone a hug, your device can fall off. It’s really inconvenient — not to mention costly if you lose it and have to buy a replacement,” said Parkinson.
Skin Grip’s patches and tape come in different colors and styles. The newest iteration is a joint venture between Skin Grip and well-known diabetes health coach Lauren Bongiorno. The term #SugarSquats is discreetly printed on the tan Dexcom G6 overpatch — a nod to the “stop, drop, and squat” exercise that Bongiorno promotes for reducing stubborn blood sugar levels in a hurry.
“Lauren has been a good friend of ours since 2018,” said Parkinson. “We have worked with her on various projects and love the positivity she spreads within the diabetes community. She is very knowledgeable and teaches a message of empowerment.”
Proceeds from the Skin Grip/Bongiorno limited edition patch will benefit the non-profit organization T1 International. “We love working with this organization because they are 100% committed to insulin affordability for individuals living with diabetes. Many other organizations take money from insulin manufacturers, which causes a conflict of interest. These guys do not take money from them,” said Parkinson.
The patch comes with a 70% discount for Bongiorno’s 12 Week Climb Workout Program designed especially for diabetics. Like Skin Grip’s other patches and tape rolls, the #SugarSquats patches are 100% medical grade and hypo-allergenic so they won’t irritate the skin.
To date, Skin Grip has saved diabetics more than $15 million on replacements for lost sensors. To learn more about the company’s products that allow diabetics to “play hard and sleep soundly,” visit www.SkinGrip.com.
