Scandinavian Novel from Addo Publishing Blends Norse, Native American Mythology and Modern American Identity Politics

As archeologists discover more evidence of our shared heritage, there is a growing interest in discovering our own roots and how we fit into our environment. Peter Liljenberg, a Swedish writer, finds local mythologies a great source of hidden messages from our past. He wanted to imagine what would happen if such a message, kept hidden for generations by villagers, was suddenly brought alive in today’s divisive society.

“We all keep secrets from each other; from family, friends, neighbors, governments and even nations – I wanted to take a small community’s darkest secret and let it dramatically unfold, from its ancient source to today”, says Peter Liljenberg.

Shadow Maker is set in a forgotten corner of the American continent, with a long-standing Scandinavian community. Peter Liljenberg has always been fascinated by American history, its diverse culture, striking scenery, and unique political system.

“I am certain that the Vikings reached America and had cultural exchanges with the Native Americans. Future discoveries and revelations are bound to surprise us all and add new layers to the complex origins of the continent, says Peter Liljenberg.

Liljenberg, whose career began as a journalist, has been in the international communication and storytelling space for more than two decades. His first book, the political thriller ‘Entropia’, was published in Sweden in 2016. Now, his second novel is being published through Addo Publishing – an independent company run by a writer-collective, with the aim to bring international writers to American readers.
