The predictor came about when the founder continued to receive scam attempts when using Craigslist Inc. It is built with Tensorflow and their recently released Tensorflow Hub. Multiple Craigslist scam messages were compiled with real genuine messages to train the machine learning predictor to an accuracy over 85%. Now the service is available online with the aim of reassuring users that they are dealing with real genuine people. “Simply enter the text on our website and receive a prediction in seconds.” said founder Daniel Sakharuk. The output of the predictor is a percent chance from 0-100%. The higher the number the more likely it is that you are being scammed. Scam Terminator recommends clarifying your encounter on an output chance greater than 20%.
The predictor is constantly evolving. Every message entered into the algorithm is subsequently used to train the algorithm and make it more robust. We expect our accuracy to rise to over 90% in the near future.
