While many businesses are struggling as the COVID-19 pandemic lingers, Rocky Mountain Forest Products has seen its profits grow by nearly 30% in recent months. To ensure that increased business doesn’t mean increased risks for either employees or customers, the company has named a full-time coordinator to usher in a number of safety enhancements at their three locations.

Since 1974, RMFP has been providing quality lumber and other building materials for fencing and decking to over one million Colorado customers. They built a name for themselves with their “wholesale-to-public” business model, which allows them to sidestep the middleman, buy directly from mills, and pass the savings on to their customers.

While safety has always been a top priority at RMFP, the company’s team is enhancing its current protocols with the creation of a Safety and Risk Management Coordinator position. Kennedy Schmidt, who has been hired for the position, will oversee safety measures at the company’s three locations (two in Wheat Ridge and one in Fountain).

Her responsibilities will include the following:

  • Ensuring that all operational teams have the proper safety gear, to include steel-toed boots, safety vests, and safety glasses
  • Adding more security cameras to protect customers and employees and to ensure that all of the company’s lumber and wood products are being loaded and unloaded as safely as possible
  • Overseeing forklift training every six months
  • Ensuring that operations teams get proper OSHA training
  • Creating and updating the appropriate safety manuals as needed

Taylor Poole, Director of Marketing for RMFP, said that Kennedy’s proactive nature and attention to detail make her the right fit for the job. “We have a strong reputation for safety, and we want that to continue as we grow,” said Poole. “We have full confidence in Kennedy and her ability to implement key processes and adhere to OSHA standards.”
