River rafting on California’s Klamath River is an activity that can be enjoyed by all; family vacations, business retreats, thrill seeking. With class II and III rapids, the white water river rafting and kayaking adventures at Marble Mountain Ranch are once-in-a-lifetime experiences. However, with California’s worsening drought, how are things fairing for the American dude ranch? Thanks to upstream reservoirs the wild west adventures live on, just fine.
Doug Cole, Owner and tour guide at Marble Mountain Ranch, comments. “Rafting and white water sports on the Klamath at MMR continue with summer water releases from upstream reservoirs.”
Free flowing spring water and snow melt-packed rivers are all but dry in California. Yet, with what flow remains being supported with recreational flow releases and wildlife habitat improvement releases, it’s business as usual at California’s vacation-destination, Marble Mountain Ranch.
All vacation and horseback riding ranches are not created equal. The dramatic scenery at California’s Marble Mountain Ranch is breathtaking, steelhead trout are plentiful on the river, and wildlife viewing is fantastic.
Marble Mountain Ranch offers various levels of river rafting participation. Guests can choose to be passive or fully participatory when river rafting on the Klamath. The water temperatures are comfortable, allowing for great river swimming, too.
Running the rapids is done in three kinds of rafts, with varying levels of participation required. Oar powered rafts require little participation with the guide doing all the work while paddle rafts require participants to assist in driving the raft. Smaller, one-person inflatable kayaks offer a face level view of the river and allow guests to personally challenge the rapids while directed downstream under the watchful eye of nearby guides.
During spring, Marble Mountain Ranch even offers 6-day whitewater river guide school classes. With over 30 years of experience, Marble Mountain Ranch’s river raft guides are well qualified to teach the skills necessary to safely guide a raft or drift boat down the river.
