MillionaireMatch, the world’s largest dating website for millionaires and high net-worth individuals, has carried out a survey that suggests the higher the financial value of a person, the less likely they are to have children.
It has been long acknowledged that having children is expensive but this fresh research suggests that a link between financially wealthier demographics and the tendency to have children could be more deeply ingrained than first thought; and even demonstrate that as people grow richer, their desire to have children lessens.
Psychologists investigating the differences between demographics of people have seen a transition in behaviour as wealth increases to what is known as a ‘k-type behaviour’: having fewer offspring but nurturing them to the point of social superiority, thus competing as well as possible for resources and mates. MillionaireMatch’s survey reinforces this behavioural point.
Steve Kasper, spokesperson for MillionaireMatch said “Our members have again demonstrated some interesting dating preferences compared to studies of those who join standard dating websites. 31.5% of our millionaire men are looking for love only with those who aren’t parents, and 21% of millionaire women would only consider a partner with children if they were adult and lived away from home. This frees up disposable income – for our members to plan fantastic dates to share with each other!”.
