Richer People less likely to have Children, MillionaireMatch’s Study Shows

MillionaireMatch, the world’s largest dating website for millionaires and high net-worth individuals, has carried out a survey that suggests the higher the financial value of a person, the less likely they are to have children.

It has been long acknowledged that having children is expensive but this fresh research suggests that a link between financially wealthier demographics and the tendency to have children could be more deeply ingrained than first thought; and even demonstrate that as people grow richer, their desire to have children lessens.

Surveying their members who hold ‘Verified Millionaire’ status, MillionaireMatch found some interesting statistics around children. 43.35% of millionaire men did not have children and only 0.97% would consider a partner with them. A further 1 in 3 had made the decision that they did not want children, and of these, over 13% admitted in this case it would be fine if their partner did have them already. Millionaire women were more tolerant of their potential partners: with 8% not having children and 12% not wanting them. An equal 12% didn’t want them but would consider a partner who was already a parent. Notably, not one respondent who was a millionaire female who had children wanted to have any more!

Psychologists investigating the differences between demographics of people have seen a transition in behaviour as wealth increases to what is known as a ‘k-type behaviour’: having fewer offspring but nurturing them to the point of social superiority, thus competing as well as possible for resources and mates. MillionaireMatch’s survey reinforces this behavioural point.
