Selecting Your Tags – the bookmarking darlings

What are tags?– Tags are used to categorize and describe the content of your press release using simple keywords. It is very important that you use the correct tags on your release. tags appear at the bottom of every release. Google picks up tags as keywords which enables people to find your article using tags.

 

How do Tags help my press release?  Users of social sites such as StumbleUpon, Delicious, Reddit and YouTube find targeted and relevant information by typing keywords (tags) in their search.  Let’s give you an example:

Lets say I am writing a release about Title Tags. I would use the following Tags: Title Tags, Tags, SEO. When someone goes on YouTube and searches for tags, My video appears. If someone goes on delicious.com and searches for SEO my article may appear.

Here are some great tips to follow:

  1. Make sure your tags are related to your article.
  2. Do not use your name as a tag unless you are really famous
  3. Do not use tags that are 3 or 4 words. Use 1 or 2 words
  4. Do use regions as tags
  5. Do not use abbreviations of an organization unless the initial are well known such as. AAA, BBB and NRA
