The very best fitness and movement specialists are not only knowledgeable, but they understand that human beings were never meant to be static and that movement is the key to unlocking your body’s infinite potential.
This is precisely why Regan Movement strives to teach clients how to break lifelong bad habits that lead them down unhealthy paths like poor posture and overcompensating muscles and to replace these bad habits with effortless strength, agility, and grace through mindfulness of movement.
If you’ve never thought about how important proper breathing is for your health and well-being, it’s time to give it some attention. The way we breathe can significantly affect our physical and emotional state.
For example, if feeling anxious or stressed, taking deep, diaphragmatic breaths can help to calm you down by stimulating the vagus nerve and lowering the heart rate. This simple technique is guaranteed to lower your stress levels!
At Regan Movement, breath is the starting point for every movement or healing process. It is the foundation of all movement since bad breathing can lead to dysfunction in the body like tight and injury-prone necks and shoulders, or even lead to more stress and anxiety.
So, how do you incorporate better breathing habits in your life? One way is to practice the previously mentioned diaphragmatic breathing, a type of deep-breathing exercise that helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system.
To do this, simply sit or lie down in a comfortable position and place one hand on your abdomen. Then, breathe in deeply through your nose, allowing your stomach to expand as well as the low back, back ribs, side waist, and side ribs as you inhale. Hold the breath for a few seconds, and then slowly exhale through your mouth with pursed lips. This will create a 360-degree breath.
There are many other benefits regarding diaphragmatic breathing as well, such as core strengthening, low back protection, or joint movements to avoid neck and back pain.
