Josh Bersin, a leading learning expert explains that businesses today spend roughly 100 hours per work year in formal learning (a.k.a. Training) – about 5% of their time. The average worker thus spends 95% of his/her time putting that training to use in the workplace. Additionally, Mr. Bersin found that businesses spend 80% of their resources (human and dollars) on the 5% of time spent in training.
Unfortunately, in spite of time and money spent, we cannot always remember those things we received in that 5% time of training. Research shows that retention of information received in formal training drops to 58% within 30 minutes after completion of training and 33% within 48 hours. After 3 weeks, learners will only retain about 15% of the knowledge taught them.
Today’s corporate learner needs appropriate training to match the knowledge gained with work demands exactly when it is needed. We all know that those demands change continually as new challenges arise while the requirement for flawless performance remains constant. Why should the opportunity to learn be any less constant? Periodic training, although useful, can lack the agility to deliver smaller portions of targeted learning at the point of need.
MYCA Multimedia offers just such timely learning in REALITY BYTESTM. These smaller portions of formal training are targeted to reinforce knowledge, provide specific performance support, communicate critical changes without causing work disruption, and provide real-time feedback loops between workers and content owners/subject matter experts (SMEs).
Delivery of REALITY BYTES uses email to targeted work groups or bulk delivery to large distribution lists. Recently, MYCA has established a relationship with a mobile learning company to support delivery of REALITY BYTES to Apple, Android and Blackberry mobile platforms to satisfy the needs of the untethered, mobile workforce.
Changing your business’s training paradigm requires a serious look at how important learning is to your success, and how integral it is to sustaining capability. MYCA Multimedia will help you assess your state of readiness and make the switch to a new plan of learning sustainability.
