Long-term member reluctantly stands in for pastor during absence & becomes the miracle
Highland, MI (PRUnderground) March 24th, 2021
The entire congregation of White Lake Presbyterian Church recently witnessed first hand that miracles still happen. While the pastor of the church was on paternity leave, Debbie Lennis, a member of the church for over 30 years & Clerk of Session for 25 years, stood in and covered the pulpit. During that session, Debbie suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
In what amazed even her doctors, she made a complete and full recovery. “They called this case a miracle and an anomaly,” stated Debbie Lennis. “A full recovery from a stroke of this nature is very uncommon. Realizing the gifts that have been given to me, and the miracle of my survival, I began to pay more attention to God’s whispers, nudges and shoves in my life.” “I enrolled at Union Presbyterian Seminary and completed 2 years of extensive study to become a Lay Pastor (Commissioned Ruling Elder) in the Presbyterian Church, USA.
“I’ve been a Presbyterian for my whole life and had been an elder at various points. I’d considered becoming a lay pastor many times, but had decided that it was just too difficult. Becoming living proof of God’s miraculous intervention changed that in short order.” “I was commissioned to White Lake Presbyterian Church on September 22, 2020, filing the void left when our former Pastor moved on.” White Lake Presbyterian Church has been a presence in the area since 1835. Missionally based, working with area schools, and on various Presbytery causes, the church continues to thrive in the midst of a pandemic.
During the time of Covid, Debbie helped keep the church going by using video, social media and “parking lot” worship. White Lake Presbyterian Church has recently re-opened to in-person, socially distanced, worship, along with FaceBook and YouTube each week.
