QY Research: The satellite communication system consists of three parts: the satellite end, the earth station and the user end. The satellite end may contain one or more satellites, each of which is composed of a satellite parent and satellite-borne equipment. The earth station consists of the tracking telemetry and command station, the monitoring and management station, and the communication gateway station (including the control center and the earth station). Satellite communication system is generally divided into synchronous orbit (GEO), high elliptical orbit (HEO), medium orbit (MEO) and low orbit (LEO). Each orbit has different communication characteristics due to its own altitude. The altitude of low-orbit satellites is about 500-2000km.It is characterized by low transmission delay, coverage, link loss and power consumption.
Space-based Internet based on low orbit constellation
Space-based Internet is a new network system that provides broadband Internet services to ground and air terminals by using various air platforms located above the earth.
Under normal circumstances, high-throughput satellite constellation with an altitude of 200 ~ 36,000 km is used to provide signals to the ground, mainly represented by Intelsat, Viasat, HughesNet, Eutelsat and other companies in the United States.
In recent years, there are also application modes of international enterprises using balloons, airships and unmanned aerial vehicles (uavs) of 20-200km as communication constellation, such as Google’s balloon and Facebook’s solar-powered uav.
Similar to satellite communications, the concept of space-based Internet is also proposed for the shortcomings of the ground Internet, which can be applied to remote areas, rural areas, mountain areas, islands, disaster areas, as well as ocean-going fleets and long-haul aircraft and other land communications are not easy to cover areas, is an important supplement to the ground Internet.

Satellite communication is a subdivision of the satellite industry, with the same industrial chain structure as the satellite industry, covering satellite manufacturing, launch service, ground equipment manufacturing, operation and service. In the downstream of the application of navigation, remote sensing and other directions will be different.

The satellite manufacturing and launching industries in the upper part of the industrial chain were driven by the demand side, which showed a significant increase compared with the previous year. The ground equipment manufacturing industry and satellite service industry realize the specific functions of communication, remote sensing, navigation and other directions for users, with a large volume.

At present, there are still more than 3 billion people in the world who have not yet been able to use the Internet. However, the construction mode of land mobile Internet has a high cost and the use price of satellite communications is relatively high, so there is still room for further development of the Internet communications market.
The construction of space-based Internet based on low-orbit communication satellite constellation has set off a new round of competition upsurge in the field of satellite communication.
At the beginning of 2020, SpaceX launched its sixth batch of 60 networking satellites, and OneWeb launched its third batch of 34 networking satellites. The current market expects the development rate of low orbit communication satellite + space-based Internet, as well as the development rate of satellite manufacturing and launch industry will be faster.
