While counterfeiters always seem to find ways to circumvent protective measures, Amazon is taking steps in the right direction to protect legitimate sellers. The PROSPER Show supports Amazon’s efforts to stop counterfeiting in the marketplace by bringing industry leaders together in a concerted effort to educate sellers on how to protect and grow the brand.
PROSPER Show is an organization that focuses on sharing best practice education and research materials with professional online sellers aimed to help them develop efficiency and profitability in their business. PROSPER Show conducts an annual conference that enables Amazon sellers to learn how to grow their business from leading solution and service providers that can help them scale their business more efficiently. Likewise, the PROSPER Show offers support for Amazon sellers to protect their products from being counterfeited within Amazon’s marketplace.
With all of its amazing benefits, counterfeit products on Amazon are among the marketplaces biggest downfalls. Lately, Amazon’s marketplace has come under fire because of the seemingly endless volume of counterfeit products. It has been reported that third-party sellers, many from China, have been flooding Amazon’s marketplace with counterfeit products.
Because Amazon has been wooing more Chinese manufacturers, the risk of counterfeit products entering the marketplace is a grave concern to many sellers who fear they will lose the trust of their customers. Past attempts by Amazon to confront the problem included imposing higher fees to deter counterfeit sellers, and requiring more paperwork from suspicious sellers. It also filed lawsuits against sellers who sold counterfeit goods on their marketplace. Amazon is spending millions of dollars annually to fight and root out counterfeits in the marketplace, but it seems to be an uphill battle.
Historically, counterfeit products have brought down several prominent Amazon sellers who previously enjoyed consistent sales until their products were ripped off and sold for lower prices. Despite the attempts of those sellers to make it clear to consumers that their products were counterfeited, they found it difficult to gain back consumers’ trust. Fake products often appeared legitimate because of the Fulfillment by Amazon program, which allowed manufacturers to deliver their goods to the fulfillment centers and in the process obtained the stamp of approval that comes with an FBA tag.
Amazon is taking further steps to stop counterfeit products from entering their marketplace. They have recently expanded their program to remove counterfeit merchandise from its website as an assurance to brand owners that they have Amazon’s support. Brand owners can now register their protected assets with Amazon for the e-commerce giant to take down listings and seller accounts when counterfeit products are flagged in the future. Additionally, Amazon’s new transparency program allows manufacturers to label their packages with a code that can be crosschecked against official information to scrub out counterfeit products.
PROSPER Show 2018 is scheduled for March 13 – 14. To learn more about how PROSPER Show’s annual conference can protect Amazon sellers in fighting counterfeit products or to grow sales by streamlining processes, visit www.ProsperShow.com.
