This past weekend, hundreds of female soccer players are passing on the turkey in the hopes of making their college dreams come true at the second annual women’s “College Showcase” event held November 24 – 26, 2017, at SilverLakes, the 130 acre premiere soccer, equestrian, event, and entertainment facility located in the City of Norco. This year’s event added some star power with the addition of National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Fenom, Adrianna Franch. Franch was recently recognized as the NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, was named to the 2017 NWSL Best XI, and anchored a Portland Thorns backline that posted a 0.83 goals against average and conceded a league-fewest 20 goals this season.

“Having Adrianna join this signature event this year offered these talented young women the unique chance to learn and accept guidance from an incredible athlete that has been a real trailblazer in athletics. She has done it all and has a great deal of experience to share for these players that are looking to follow in her footsteps and play collegiate and professional soccer. It takes more than talent and we are pleased to have Adrianna here to demonstrate the character, intellect and perseverance needed for success,” said Josh Hodges, Executive Director of Sports for SilverLakes.

The College Showcase offers a unique opportunity for teams from across the United States and beyond to play together in one location in front of key decision makers looking to build their collegiate and professional rosters in the coming years. SilverLakes has focused this signature event on young women in an effort expand access to scholarship opportunities for these athletes. The competition for more than $2.7 billion in athletics scholarships granted annually by the NCAA Divisions I and II schools is extremely competitive and often comes down to demonstrating an athlete’s skill to a select few, and hard to access, coaches and recruiters. SilverLakes is working to tear down the barriers for student athletes by convening this showcase event.

“About 150,000 student athletes win scholarship dollars each year at a division one or two school. This is just a small percentage of those vying for these coveted sports. The College Showcase event is providing a more even playing field for athletes to compete for these important educational and athletic opportunities. It is natural fit for us to have a focused effort in support of women’s athletics, a historically underserved area that requires continued efforts to promote equitable access,” concluded Hodges.
