Consumers shopping for CBD products seem to be favoring organic pure CBD oil tincture products but there are many types of CBD that are selling well, including vape products and topicals. Sales of CBD products are on a hot streak lately, as this sub-niche in the hemp and marijuana arena becomes an ever-increasing factor in the overall legalized cannabis space.
The public acceptance of various cannabis products among adults is increasing steadily as the legalization picture changes in many states move towards an end pot prohibition. The significant expansion of the cannabidiol (or CBD) arena shows just how diverse the legal cannabis and hemp markets are becoming. So, it is not only the recreational marijuana market that is at play in the industry’s market growth. There are a number of companies with an interesting array of new CBD oil products and many of them are reviewed on CBDReVu.com such as Rick Simpson Oil, CBDPure, Kannaway Pure CBD and others.
The significant expansion of the cannabidiol (or CBD) arena shows just how diverse the legal cannabis and hemp markets are becoming. Marijuana products contain a compound called THC, which the compound in recreational marijuana that produces a psychoactive high, but CBD does not. CBD does not produce a high but is popular because of a wide range of perceived potential health and nutritional related benefits, which are not proven at this point in time. CBD derived from hemp plants with negligible or zero levels of THC represent a rapidly growing market niche. Sales went from nothing to around $90 million in 2015. By adding in cannabis sourced CBD sales that figure goes up by an additional $112 million bringing the total sales figure for 2015 to $202 million. But 2016 was even better. Total CBD sales reached $688 million for 2016. Breaking that figure down we see that $130 million came from hemp sourced CBD, and the other $558 million came from marijuana sources.
A recent analysis by an industry publication called The Hemp Business Journal projects CBD sales hitting $2.1 billion by 2020 with approximately a quarter of that coming from hemp and the remainder coming from cannabis. A different industry source is predicting cannabidiol sales of $3 billion by 2021.
Consumer interest for CBD skyrocketed after a 2013 CNN program special hosted by Dr. Sanjay Gupta during which he discussed the seeming success in Colorado of the use of a CBD product for a young girl with epilepsy. The show had an apparent significant effect on public opinion and created an immediate interest, along with product demand, for CBD across the country. The program essentially kick started the new CBD industry and new products started flooding the marketplace.
