Second year New York Giants safety Landon Collins announced that he’ll be hosting the first annual Landon Collins Celebrity Softball Game at Palisades Credit Union Park in Pomona, NY on Friday, June 2nd. The softball game, which will donate a portion of proceeds to the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation, will pit current and former New York Giants against one another as they test out their competitive skills on the baseball diamond. Collins will captain a team of players currently on the Giants’ roster while former Giants running back, Brandon Jacobs, will be captain of the veteran team that will be comprised of greats from Super Bowl XLII and XLVI champion teams.
Eli Manning, Antonio Pierce, Justin Tuck, and Ahmad Bradshaw are among many players scheduled to participate, and a portion of proceeds will benefit the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation, founded by former NY Giants Head Coach, Tom Coughlin.
A tailgate in the parking lot will begin at 5pm, and doors to the stadium will open at 6pm.
New York Giants fan favorite, Joe Ruback, aka License Plate Guy, came up with the idea for the event, and after approaching Collins about it at the ProBowl in January, got the green light to proceed. “We are so excited to bring together a group of incredible athletes for a fun-filled day – all to support a great cause,” said Ruback.
“The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation is thrilled to be the recipient of a portion of the proceeds from this Impact Player Event,” said Lynn Chwatsky, Managing Director of the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation New York/New Jersey Area. “We are grateful for the continued commitment of the Giants, the fans, and the community to help local families who are tackling childhood cancer.”
The night’s activities will include a dodgeball game, a homerun derby and then the celebrity softball game where the NFL pros will take their shots at swinging for the fences. Stadium tickets are $20 and are available at www.landoncollinsgame.com. Tailgate tickets are $25 and are available at www.immortalseats.com.
About the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation
The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation was created in 1996 in honor of Jay McGillis. Jay developed leukemia while playing for Coach Coughlin at Boston College. In the eight months between Jay’s diagnosis and the day he lost his battle with cancer, the Coughlin family saw first-hand the physical, emotional and financial strains the illness caused the McGillis Family. Coach Coughlin vowed, if he ever had the chance, he would create a way to help families with children tackling cancer.
OUR MISSION is to help families tackle childhood cancer by providing comprehensive financial, emotional and practical support. From diagnosis to recovery and beyond, we are part of the team, allowing parents to solely focus on their child’s well-being. Our goal is to BE THERE for parents facing the unthinkable so they can be there for their families. www.tcjayfund.org; @tcjayfund
