Atlanta’s resident author Will Pollock, whose most recent work is Pizza for Good, will host the 12th annual New Year’s Eve Gourmet Pizza Extravaganza for ARTvision (Artists Reaching Through). The fundraiser will be held at his home, a renovated historical preservation project that was featured on HGTV’s Groundbreakers.

All proceeds from the event will go to Postive Impact, a non-profit that provides mental-health counseling to people affected by HIV in the Atlanta area.

ARTvision (Artists Reaching Through) is based on the premise that some creative people have a natural, embedded drive to use their talent for good—even if it means the effort doesn’t immediately earn them direct income. A photographer, for example, might print, mat, and frame a piece at his or her own expense and donate it to our event for the sole purpose of fundraising.

In exchange, ARTvision endlessly promotes them in person, on its website, and on social media. That photograph is usually assigned a flat fee, and it is either sold, donated, or returned to the artist.

ARTvision started in 2006. It was designed to be small, exclusively online, concurrent with the New Year Eve’s Gourmet Pizza Extravaganza party, and comprised of two painters and two photographers. It was an unexpected success. More Gourmet Pizza Extravaganzas followed, each being increasingly successful.

Today, ARTvision usually features at least 20 artists across multiple mediums from around the nation and world. This year, ARTvision-8’s theme is “The Promise of Peace: Art Innovating Life,” which is the first time the theme is both topical and a charge to make a statement for a better world.

Will’s book, Pizza for Good, (Agate Publishing; $4.99; December 2013) shows readers how to put America’s favorite food in the service of building community by raising money for worthy causes. His fundraising model has helped to raise tens of thousands of dollars for charity. Pizza for Good shows how others can use his model to raise money for good causes as well.

In honor of the event, Will is offering ARTvision attendees a 50% discount on copies of Pizza for Good purchased from January 1st to January 3rd, 2014.
