New Mexico’s General Obligation Bond C was passed by 56 percent of the vote last month, freeing $139 million for building and renovations of 2 year colleges across the state, thus fueling New Mexico’s construction industry.
Some projects include 5 million for construction of a the Health Wellness Learning Center adjacent to the Hobbs campus of New Mexico Junior College. The partnership overseeing this project includes the City of Hobbs, Hobbs Municipal School District, and the non-profit J.F. Maddox Foundation.
Other projects include $2 million for renovations at Dona Ana Community College in Las Cruces, $1.3 million for design and improvements to one of the Las Vegas-based Luna Community College campuses,
The $5 million wellness center is just one of a handful of building and renovation projects at two-year colleges across the state that now have money due to the passage of the $139 million GO Bond C.
The Bond C allotments for those projects include $2 million for the renovation of 8 classrooms and the planning, design and building of safety infrastructure improvements at Dona Ana Community College in Las Cruces; and $1.3 million to design and build improvements at one of the Las Vegas-based Luna Community College’s campuses.
Santa Fe Community College has been alloted $2 million for a series of updates at the school’s Waste Water Treatment Plant and other renovations.
The largest Bond C project is a $10 million project for major renovation of Smith Brasher Hall at the Albuquerque campus of the Central New Mexico Community College (CNM).
