Robert James Austin, the protagonist in the award winning novel, Miracle Man, is not only the greatest genius in human history, but his intelligence is so extraordinary that it dwarfs that of Einstein, Leonard da Vinci and Isaac Newton.
As Dr. John Uhlman, Chief of Psycho-Neurological Development at the Mayo Clinic explained to Robert James Austin’s parents, when the child was tested at age four: “The results of the exams are nothing short of astounding. Robert is like the Grand Canyon. He’s one-of-a-kind. I don’t believe there has ever been anyone who possesses the magnitude of raw intelligence that Robert has. We can only begin to estimate Robert’s minimum intelligence. This we put at 550-600, but I’m confident that this is inordinately minimized. The IQ differential between Robert and the highest person on the IQ list previously known, represents a quantum leap in the intelligence level. A veritable different species altogether.”
Dr. Uhlman’s examination of the young boy confirmed what had already been discovered by Dr. Ronald Draper, the Head of the Department of Child Psychology at Mount Sinai Hospital; Dr. Herman Knoll, the Chancellor of the Chicago Board of Education; and Dr. Raymond Massey, the Dean of the Illinois Board of Regents in their earlier tests.
Seeking an explanation as to why the boy possesses such an extraordinary intellect, is a futile task according to Dr. Uhlman. “There’s no plausible explanation for something like this. The more we study human intelligence, the more we realize how little we know.”
But such a level of intelligence is not necessarily a gift. As Dr. Uhlman explained to Robert’s parents, “Intelligence of the magnitude possessed by Robert is self-isolating. His intellect will confine him and alienate him from society at large and will be a roadblock to social intimacy. It will awe and intimidate others to such a degree that Robert will be ostracized.”
Miracle Man is the saga of Robert James Austin. As agents of corporate greed vie with rabid anti-Western radicals to destroy him, an obsessive government leader launches a bizarre covert mission to exploit his intellect. Yet Austin’s greatest fear is not of this world. Aided by two exceptional women, one of whom will become his unlikely lover, Austin struggles against abandonment and betrayal. But the forces that oppose him are more powerful than even he can understand.
Miracle Man has been unanimously heralded by reviewers. The Midwest Book Review said, “To call this novel a ‘medical thriller’ or a ‘political story’ would be to do it an injustice. Miracle Man is about miracles, motivations, and the ability to withstand moral and ethical temptations against all odds. Readers are treated to a plot with many twists and turns: it holds intrigue, describes compulsions and diversions, and paints a powerful picture of the search for privacy, as much as meaning. This gripping novel of psychological tension is a pick for any who want high octane action and emotionally-charged reading right up to an unexpected, gripping conclusion.”
