At Metropolis—the only comic book art gallery in New York—fans can get a close-up, personal view of the works of renowned fantasy artists Frank Frazetta, Jeffrey Catherin Jones, Greg Hildebrandt, Ken Kelly, and Phil Hale. Not to mention Don Maitz, Bernie Wrightson, Jeremy Geddes, and Barry Windsor Smith.

“We’re excited about this collection,” says curator Rob Pistella. “Frank Frazetta has been called the greatest fantasy artist of the 20th Century. Jeff Jones was a brilliant transgender pioneer whose groundbreaking work—like Big Tarzan, which we’ll have on display—is garnering renewed interest.”

The opening reception will be held Friday from 6-10pm and is open to the public. In attendance will be artist Greg Hildebrandt, who along with his late brother Tim, produced iconic works for properties like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Visceral painter Ken Kelly, famed for his 1970s Warren magazine covers and KISS album art, will also attend.

“What greater way to celebrate Comic Con than by viewing original works of the world’s foremost fantasy artists?” says Metropolis COO Vincent Zurzolo, noting that the opening will continue on Saturday, October 10 from 12-8pm and Sunday, October 11 from 12-5pm.

Thereafter, the exhibit is open Tuesday-Friday, 11am-5pm. All art is available for viewing and for sale.  Also available for viewing in the Metropolis permanent art exhibit with over $5 million worth of art including the 1940s covers of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

The gallery is the creation of Metropolis Collectibles, the world’s largest vintage comic collectibles dealer. Together with its online auction house, ComicConnect.com, it has an evolving inventory of more than 150,000 collectibles and holds five Guinness World Records.  Metropolis is located at 36 West 37th Street, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10018.
