The Me Fine Foundation is proud to announce their “Hope for the Holidays” program saw over $74,000 in toys and gifts distributed to nearly 70 families at Duke Children’s and the North Carolina Children’s Hospitals in December. Every year, Me Fine Foundation adopts families via this program who have children who have experienced severe medical hardships over the past year and may otherwise have little to look forward to during the holiday season.
Critically ill children and their families have all benefited from Me Fine Foundation’s financial support including mortgage/rent assistance to prevent eviction, utility payments to halt disconnection, grocery bills, payment of medical bills, and even help with final expenses. The “Hope for the Holidays” program specifically helps families during the holidays through in-kind donations, as well as the thousands of gifts for children and their families. Local churches, businesses, civic groups and even individual households helped to sponsor these families and make the meaning of Christmas a reality.
“The number of families our donors helped us support was amazing- A child who’s had nearly 80 surgeries in his life, and who lost a parent suddenly last year; a five year old who has been in the hospital with leukemia for over six months, and hopes to be home with his single mom by Christmas; a family who is experiencing the first Christmas since losing their child earlier this year. We’re so happy we could help these courageous folks have a little better holiday this year,” said Joey Powell, Executive Director of the Me Fine Foundation.
