Famous for its “saddle and paddle” or “raft-n-ride” vacations, Marble Mountain Ranch is a unique mountain destination located in an area of abundant meadows, craggy peaks, and streams within the Marble Mountain wilderness. A hot summer this year has led to several wildfires in or near Somes Bar, California. Last August, Marble Mountain Ranch narrowly escaped a nearby fire. A new fire now again threatens the ranch.
The ranch was fortunate to remain undamaged after a forest fire engulfed the surrounding property last month. Current fires on the Six River National Forest cover the Orleans Complex and the Oak Fire at the Eclipse Complex at the Klamath National Forest still threaten the areas surrounding Marble Mountain Ranch.
As of September 7, the fire was only half a mile away from Marble Mountain Ranch although it is moving slowly due to some rain and moisture in the air. Firefighters on site laid hoses and secured the building at the Marble Mountain Ranch. A mandatory evacuation, now lifted, was in effect on the areas surrounding Marble Mountain Ranch. The evacuation order coveeds Marble Mountain Ranch, with its staff gone except for the residents that remain behind to assist firefighters that manage the ranch infrastructure.
The threat of the Orleans Complex fires are real, and the ranch owners did not taking any risks. Marble Mountain Ranch canceled reservations and had temporarily shut down because of the approaching fire and due to the unhealthy air quality.
“I feel confident that the Marble Mountain Ranch is safe from the fire. We have crews working round the clock to protect the ranch by utilizing our infrastructures, which includes trails for fire lines, the ranch irrigation system as water supplies for fire suppression and the ranch pond to be the pumping source for fire suppression. We always pull together as a community with the surrounding ranches and landowners and this time is no different,” says Doug Cole, Marble Mountain Ranch owner.
Marble Mountain Ranch is a popular dude ranch vacation destination for getaways and reunions. Visitors combine recreation on the Klamath River with horseback vacations. Marble Mountain Ranch will soon resume services following total suppression of the fire. For the latest updates, visit www.MarbleMountainRanch.com or call 1-800-552-6284.
