Mako CMS Fall 2019 Update Adds Features for Wi-Fi AP Scanning, Enhanced IDS/IPS, and NetFlow

Industry: Technology

Mako customers can now automate Wi-Fi access point security scans, have full control over intrusion detection and prevention systems, and export NetFlow traffic data from within the Mako Central Management System.

Elgin, IL (PRUnderground) December 5th, 2019

Mako Networks has released an update to the Mako Central Management System (Mako CMS) for Fall 2019 that allows Mako customers to automate Wi-Fi access point (AP) security scans, have full control over intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and export NetFlow traffic data from within the Mako CMS.

The ability to perform automated Wi-Fi AP scans is an important requirement for PCI DSS compliance. Mako CMS users can categorize each detected SSID to demonstrate that it has been vetted. Users can also configure the Mako CMS to send email notifications whenever a new SSID is detected or whenever encryption settings are changed for a detected SSID.

Expanding on previous IDS support, the Mako CMS now allows users to create IDS profiles for their company. Each IDS profile defines a set of IDS rules to apply to subscribed Mako appliances. Mako provides default sources for these rules, and users can create their own custom sources or subscribe to third party sources, as well. Once rules have been established for their Mako appliances, users can enable the newly-released IPS feature to automatically react to IDS events.

Mako customers can now utilize NetFlow to export traffic information from their Mako appliances to their security information and event management (SIEM) tools for further analysis.

As with most Mako CMS settings, centrally approved settings for all of these new features can be applied to any number of distributed Mako appliances using Enterprise Templates.

“Our commitment to continuously improving the Mako platform means our customers can benefit from new features that did not exist when they deployed their Mako System,” said Simon Gamble, President of Mako Networks. “The Mako System is already packed with features, but we add more and more all the time to ensure our customers have the tools they need.”
