Multitasking is a virtue, especially in modern times. But in Li Li‘s case multitasking has become pretty spectacular.
The Chinese-born London-based crossover soprano Li Li moved from Beijing to Birmingham 8 years ago to attend a Master at the Birmingham Conservatoire. After being awarded numerous singing prizes, including the Mario Lanza Opera Prize and the Ashleyan Opera Prize, Li Li moved to London. Since then, she has regularly toured among others as Cio-Cio San in the London production “Finding Butterfly” by Steve Tiller, and in “Madame Butterfly” with Park Opera – both productions have earnt Li Li rave reviews. In September 2013 Li Li sang at the Tottori Festival in Japan with Opera Machine, again as Cio-Cio San.
Li Li experienced a very special and somewhat surreal moment. Fortunate to be in the presence of superstar Andrea Bocelli prior to his concert at London’s O2 Arena, she took part in an impromptu performance where Mr Bocelli accompanied on the piano Li Li singing Butterfly’s “Un Bel Di Vedremo”.
Li Li sang at the opening ceremony of the World Unified Martial Arts Championship, besides singing in Superkombat’s World Grand Prix Final, broadcast live on Eurosport International TV to over 90 countries.
Li Li’s successful debut on Italian national television – RAI 1 – took place in the popular Concerto Dell’Epifania 2014 where she sang Ennio Morricone’s “Nella Fantasia”.
She is also very active in touring shows, including “Magical Mozart” performed 50 times in two years. Li Li has also recently supported the electric string quartet BOND.
“When music is beautiful, it does not matter what style it is” says Li Li. To prove the point, a fairly unorthodox duo has been formed: Li Li joined the legendary Hollywood actor Sir Christopher Lee (Lord of The Rings, Star Wars…) to sing “Jingle Hell” – a playful rock take on “Jingle Bells” which reached the no.18 in the USA Billboard charts!
As if it were not enough, the multi-faceted Li Li has created Lilisan Ltd, organiser of the major London event FestivalAsia (in collaboration with Barley Arts Int'l). FestivalAsia is a pan-Asian event encompassing food, products, business, travel, spirituality, culture, martial arts and over 50 live performers representing the whole Asian continent. FestivalAsia will take place in May 15th, 16th and 17th, 2015 at Tobacco Dock – Tobacco Dock is in proximity of Tower Bridge, Central London.
While organising FestivalAsia and touring as a soprano, Li Li has found the time to write the operatic musical “I Want To Sing Opera” with veteran director Stephen Tiller who also directs the show.
“I Want To Sing Opera” is the hilarious story of a tea-lady turned singer; and it reveals the true backstage life of professional musicians and their trials and tribulations – all while international singers perform the most famous opera arias ever composed.
“I Want To Sing Opera” debuts at the Lancaster Grand Theatre on 12th March, and at the Croydon Fairfield Halls on 17th March, 2015.
