There has been much talk in the tech world about the development of successive generations of smart machine designs, which will eventually lead to an intelligence explosion. The era of Singularity is described as creating intelligence that far exceeds the human intellectual capacity that we know now. The Singularity era is a period that is expected to transcend biological limitations and increase the level of creativity, leading to the dawn of a new civilization.
While presenting a talk at a recent Technology investment forum in New York City, Mr. Jeffrey Cohen said, “It is important to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Artificial Intelligence is not a new concept to many of us, but today it is quite evident that there are much greater things to come from the groundwork that technologists have already laid in place.”
In his 1993 essay, “The Coming Technological Singularity”, Professor Vernor Vinge argued about The Singularity in the context of the creation of superhuman artificial intelligence. The retired professor stated that the model of the world would break down when it tries to model a future containing beings that are smarter than humans are. It may seem like quite a distant concept but with the constant growth of computer processing power and biotechnology, we should expect it much sooner, as soon as the next forty years.
Scientists today believe that in the near future, they will be able to create bioware capable of housing a super-intelligent entity although they are unsure of the NY Post software that will be used to run it. AI experts have previously suggested the creation of a community of computers that could be linked to create a super intelligence since they do not understand the brain well enough to create a super intelligent being by themselves.
“Technology is on a fast paced move towards the future. But the question we should be asking is, are we ready to handle the power of computers, biotechnology and artificial intelligence? There are a lot of undesirable human traits that we need to be wary of in order to handle the flood of information and technology coming our way.” Mr. Jeff Cohen concluded leaving the crowd deep in thought.
