The international online magazine 300Magazine is pleased to introduce Michael Levchenko, a prominent Ukrainian artist specializing in abstract sculptural art. Contemporary sculpture by Michael Levchenko has been seen worldwide – from Ukraine to China to Argentina and all over Europe – and is included in the museum exhibitions in different countries around the globe. The talented artist is a member of the International Association for Monumental Sculpture Events (Italy) and the Professional Artists’ Union (Ukraine), which is affiliated with the International Associate of Art working in partnership with UNESCO.
Michael Levchenko was born in Kyiv in 1976. His mother was a graphic designer, and his father was a painter and architect, which allowed the boy to be involved in art from an early age. Michael Levchenko began sculpting at the Ukrainian National Art School when he was only 15 years old. The inspired artist started out creating figurative art that gradually evolved into abstraction. Abstraction gave Michael Levchenko complete freedom and the ability to shape the space both intellectually and emotionally. His works are focused on aesthetic forms that the artist creates using clay, stone, metal, bronze, and many other materials, incorporating a wide range of techniques.
Michael Levchenko’s abstract sculptures have been influenced by different things, including classical European and modern art. His works are also inspired by primitive and prehistoric art from Africa, Oceania, and pre-Columbian America, which has greatly contributed to the development of the artist’s personal style and aesthetic and impacted his practice.
Today, Michael Levchenko is one of the most celebrated contemporary Ukrainian artists whose sculptures are exhibited around the world. He has participated in more than 60 international sculpting symposiums, exhibitions, and festivals held in the United States, Ukraine, Turkey, Israel, Japan, China, Taiwan, Spain, Norway, Luxemburg, Italy, France, Chile, Argentina, and many other countries worldwide. His works are in the collections of the International Sculpture Park in Aya Napa (Cyprus), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Volterra (Italy), and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roldan (Argentina), not to mention numerous private collections throughout the globe.
Michael Levchenko’s goal is to be a participant in contemporary art-making and bring something new and significant to the fascinating world of art. The artist does it, first and foremost, with his incredible monumental abstract sculptures, but he also has a gorgeous collection of paintings that are no less impressive than his sculptural works. Be it sculpture or painting, Michael Levchenko creates aesthetic images that are intrinsically emotional and that represent a synergy between the subconscious and a pure idea, and this is what makes his works so special and important for contemporary art.
