Infected with Herpes Virus? Beware of Peanuts; CBCD Reviews Medical Evidence

Peanuts contain an amino acid called L-arginine. This amino acid has been linked to herpes outbreaks. Dr. Weil wrote that “you should cut back on foods containing L-arginine.” (1) Dr. Weil is the editorial director of Weil Lifestyle, LLC. WebMD agrees with Dr. Weil’s suggestions. According to WebMD; “There is some evidence that L-arginine is needed for the herpes virus to multiply.” (2)
The CBCD therefore recommends that people infected with the herpes virus take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The formula of these natural antiviral products was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin formula is effective against the EBV and other viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. L-arginine is also used for recurrent pain in the legs due to blocked arteries (intermittent claudication), decreased mental capacity in the elderly (senile dementia), erectile dysfunction (ED), and male infertility.” (4)
Thus, while L-arginine may be beneficial in many cases, individuals infected with HSV, should be aware of its potential harmful effects caused by its tendency to promote HSV replication.
In light of this information, the CBCD recommends that individuals infected with the herpes virus (HSV-1 or HSV-2) take the natural antiviral remedies Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.
