IndiaQBank Releases PDF on How to Become a Physician in India

Industry: Education

In response to high demand from medical students around the world, IndiaQBank, the country’s premiere provider of online question banks for Indian medical licensing

India (PRUnderground) May 30th, 2017

Doctors in India often study in other countries before obtaining their Indian medical licenses. This is certainly not an uncommon practice, but it is one that can leave students confused about the processes involved in becoming successfully licensed in India. In response to high demand, IndiaQBank has created an in-depth PDF discussing the methods and steps for becoming a physician in India, which includes several steps.

First is obtaining citizenship with an OCI, which stands for Overseas Citizen of India. This is an absolute requirement for any doctor who wishes to practice in this country, and it can take several months, so it’s best to apply early.

Second, doctors will need to obtain what are known as “equivalency certificates” for all their diplomas and degrees. Keep in mind that not all degrees and diplomas are equal, so in some cases, those aspiring to become physicians in India must take additional courses.

Anyone who attended a medical school outside of India is required to take the FMGE examination, which stands for Foreign Medical Graduates Examination. Even individuals who have already passed other licensing examinations, including the USMLE and the MCCQE, must take this examination to show their knowledge and skill as it applies to practicing medicine in India. However, students who passed their medical examinations and completed a residency in certain countries – which include the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand – are not required to sit for this exam.

Next, aspiring Indian physicians must also complete what is called a Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship, or CRRI, at one of several hospitals throughout the country. Instructions for applying for the CRRI (as well as other pertinent information) are provided in the PDF.

Finally, after finishing the CRRI, physicians must apply for licensure in the state in which they intend to practice. Following this licensure, physicians have met all the requirements to legally work or even open their own practices in India.
