Versa Technology, Inc, (Versatek, Versa),  a US-based provider of last-mile IT networking technology and one of the largest suppliers of Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch technology with an expansive product portfolio supporting a variety of IT networking environments, and Planet Technology USA (PLANET), a division of Versa Technology, supplying cost-effective last-mile PoE networking solutions, jointly announce longer than normal lead times needed to deliver products due to delayed product delivery from Taiwan (and other south Asia regions) based on shortages in the integrated circuit (IC) supplies coming from semiconductor manufacturers.

Multiple Causes for The Shortage
Shortages arise from a confluence of factors: semiconductors are experiencing supply delays, slowing the production of new ICs. Electronics inventories stretched from a spring 2020 consumer rush-to-buy during the shutdown (laptops, gaming consoles, and other electronic products) have left manufacturers in need of further IC inventory. Additionally, the cargo shipping industry is severely understaffed as some countries are still in lockdown. Finally, surging demand is pushing prices higher while global shipping networks are experiencing these delays. The product lines of both Versa and PLANET, which are manufactured in Taiwan, rely heavily on this portfolio of basic integrated circuit models. The use of these basic ICs is prevalent across multiple industries and other manufacturers such as appliance and automotive are also feeling the strain.

When The Supply Chain Is Expected to Return to Normal
While market segments like the auto industry are taking steps to limit losses during the shortage, the supply chain has jumped into action and a return to normal can be looked for sometime around the end of summer 2021.

“Many of our customers are planning to submit orders and need to be aware that traditional ship times and price points will be impacted by this shortage,” says Joe Williams, the Versa Technology Director of Distributed Sales, “We want to ensure that equipment is received with as few unexpected delays as possible to help our distributors win more business, but longer delivery times need to be factored-in to implementation plans for the foreseeable future”
Please contact our sales department for updated pricing and lead time as soon as you have a forecasted order. All pricing will only be valid for 30 days. Due to these Covid-19 related impacts on the supply chain, we anticipate higher pricing and longer lead times than usual. We appreciate your business during these unusual times
