Human Connection Arts, a non-profit founded by NYC-based artist and body painter Andy Golub, announced today the organization’s 8th annual NYC Bodypainting Day will be held on Sunday, July 25th at the event’s new location at Union Square Park at 17th Street & Broadway in the heart of Greenwich Village. Golub and 30 other artists will be body painting over 50 models, regular people of all shapes and sizes, as New York emerges from a year of lockdowns, social distancing, and wearing masks.

The theme of this year’s Bodypainting Day is Resilience. Golub, explains, “It’s been a tough year for all of us. Isolation in New York City is especially difficult. Now it’s time to reconnect, heal and grow together. New York is resilient! I can’t wait to see the art created to this theme.”

On July 25th, beginning at noon, over 50 models – everyday people of various ages, sizes, and genders – will strip down and have their entire bodies painted. After 4-hours of painting, the models will march to Washington Square Park for a photoshoot at the iconic Arch and then ride a double-decker tour bus through Manhattan, landing in Greenpoint, Brooklyn for an after-party at HCA’s gallery, mural, and event space.

This year’s NYC Bodypainting Day also marks the 10-year anniversary of Golub’s famed arrest in 2011 while painting 2 unclothed models in Times Square. After charges were dropped, the city acknowledged that Golub’s public art was legal, opening the door for a variety of artistic projects that celebrate the body throughout New York City including NYC Bodypainting Day.

Since then, Golub has organized many large-scale art events throughout Europe and the US, and his art has been featured at many New York City Parades and Pridefest.

If you are interested in joining Bodypainting Day as a model, artist, or volunteer, or to learn more about the event, visit:  https://www.humanconnectionarts.org/2021-nycbd/.

All participants must be 18 years old or older.
