Hope-JG Foundation Announces Innovative “Roll-In Shower” Installation Program To Help Maine Families Afflicted By ALS

Industry: Non Profit & Charity

Partnership with Bath Fitter-Maine and New England Plumbing and Heating, Inc. provides much needed independence and elevated care for patients and families alike

Windham, ME (PRUnderground) January 29th, 2019

Where one Maine family saw a need, another saw an opportunity to help. Maine-based Hope-JG Foundation Co-founders John and Linda Gregoire received a request from a family to help fund a roll-in shower in their home. The Foundation responded with a new shower installation for the Mains family of Poland, Maine and the development of an important initiative.

With the generous support of Bath-Fitter-Maine, New England Plumbing and Heating, Inc. and the ALS Maine Collaborative, The Hope-JG Foundation has developed a program to enable patients afflicted with ALS to stay independent and in their homes.

“Taking a shower is one of those things that becomes really problematic for people with ALS who in most cases can no longer walk or step over a bathtub wall,” says Hope-JG Co-founder John Gregoire. “Having a roll-in shower installed is literally a life-changing event. It introduces a level of independence and care that many families can’t afford to take on by themselves.”

Through the generous support of Bath Fitter-Maine and New England Plumbing and Heating, Inc., the Hope-JG Foundation completed the first roll-in tub installation for the Mains family and established a program for other ALS afflicted families throughout the state. New England Plumbing and Heating takes on the plumbing required prior to installation, then Bath Fitters-Maine donates materials at cost and free labor necessary to complete the job. The Hope-JG Foundation covers all additional costs.

“My heart goes out to the families dealing with ALS and the enormous challenges they face every day caring for loved ones. The English language does not have the words to clearly communicate what these families must endure. Bath Fitter Maine is pleased to support this ongoing effort.”, says Steve Veilleux, General Manager  of Bath Fitter-Maine.

“This project is a great example of how the financial contributions to our organization and the generosity of Maine companies combine to make lives better for our neighbors”, says co-founder of The Hope-JG Foundation Linda Gregoire. “Our existing Helping Hands program provides ALS families with practical, tangible financial, advisory and emotional support . This most recent partnership is one way we are looking to expand our Helping Hands  to help as many northern New England ALS-affected families as we can. We welcome private and corporate contributions to the effort.”
